International Archaeology Day is a celebration of archaeology and the thrill of discovery. The Archaeological Institute of America and collaborating archaeological organizations across the United States, Canada, and abroad present archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. Whether it is a family-friendly archaeology fair, a guided tour of a local archaeological site, a simulated dig, a lecture or classroom visit from an archaeologist, interactive, hands-on International Archaeology Day programs provide the chance to indulge your inner Indiana Jones and be an archaeologist for the day.

Kidsville at Green Hills Family Festival
Kidsville is off-site for a fun event! The annual Green Hills Park Festival is Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Green Hills Park. This free festival will feature local shopping, family-fun activities, food trucks, beer and wine vendors, college football games showing, and a family movie night! The movie will be shown from 7-9 pm.

September Storybook Walk
Free activity all month long! Come take a walk on the Centennial Park Walking Trail around Lake Watauga and learn about honey bees. Read the pages of the storybook, You Are a Honeybee, written by Laurie Ann Thompson. You might have heard the words “busy as a bee," but what do bees actually do each day? Did you know bees clean their rooms, help feed baby bees, and build the hive they live in? From birth to first flight and beyond, discover all that goes into being a bee in this charming picture book.

August Storybook Walk

Read the pages of the storybook, Flower Talk: How Plants Use Color to Communicate, written by Sara Levine and illustrated by Masha D’Yons. The book has a talking cactus that shares how flowers use colors and scents to talk to pollinators like bees, bats and birds.
